The ever-so-adorable and slightly alternabearish Justin at JustinSpace.com has a gift for all of us who’ve fallen prey to the jeebusPhone hype and plunked down a few hunnerd bucks for a glass and plastic gem. That makes phone calls. If you don’t have an iPhone, whatever, there’s something for you too.
His blog and his book are hysterical. Head over there today and get you some ringtones from the Magic Kingdom and a very cool handmade wallpaper for your iPhone. The ones from the Haunted House are great, but it’s the Spinning Tea Cups Ride theme that’s got me smiling everytime my phone rings.
While you’re there, poke around his blog and say hi. You’ll be glad you did.

Who is this guy anyway?
We met Steve about 7 years ago when he was living up near the BGW Ranch, Spa and Gerbil Rescue. He was working at the health food store and always had a guitar in the back of his car. Hippy style, he keeps it real. This is his second album and he’s kickin it into gear. He gave us two tracks you fellers can downlad for free. Hope you like him as much as we do. Check out his myspace page to hear some more music or buy his new cd. http://www.myspace.com/stevetaylorband
Hey guys, thanks for selecting me for a Bears Gone Wild feature! I’ve been an ardent supporter of improving music in the gay community after hearing extremely foul techno at even the most remotely gay outpost. Kudos to The Eagle and The Lone Star for keeping the good taste going and actually playing stuff that they wouldn’t even play at the hippest straight bar! I’m trying to bring a little Beatle-esque Bowieish loving to y’all. Some might mistake my music for yacht rock, which is OK, but that’s not exactly where I’m coming from. I prefer the term babysitter rock, because it’s influenced by what my babysitters were playing back in the day. I just finished a record, which will hopefully liberate me from my dismal day job. If you like it and would like to help me in my unshackling, you can buy it at Amoeba in SF or online! Plus demand that they book me at The Eagle! I’m sending my most bearific shots, although I’m smooth as a baby’s shaved bottom right now! Please don’t hold that against me! My work made me do it! Special thanks to my friends with benefits from the Valley of the Grass, Erik and Brent!

Tonight we’ll be down at the Eagle in SF for the IBR opener. We like to make sure that Thursday night is so much fun, the rest of IBR is just wrecked. So bring a headdress and come on down for booze and BHER!
The Whoa Nellies, Marc Manning and Future Villains Band from L.A. are opening.
This Thursday night, May 17th, I’ll be down at the Eagle SF to rawk with Patrock and his pals in Hammers of Misfortune. If you’re in SF or the surrounding environs and looking for an awesome evening with one of the great Ladybears of Rock, you must attend.
Update: Sunday, May 20. Holy crap. They rocked so hard. Like if Yes and Rush had a love child pair of twins - a boy and girl. It was a f-ing amazing show. And Patrock rocked it in his Bubba Loves It shirt! Thanks for representin’ P! We’re gonna have an interview and some downloads coming from Patrock in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, yo.
In celebration of April, 20th (4/20), I’ve posted a couple of li’l presents for y’all.
One of my favorite genres of music is somethng I call Dance Rock. Rotten Robbie plays lots of it. Think Boston with a backbeat. Or Manfred Mann’s Earth Band with a Disco Boys thumping bass. These kinda songs make me wanna shake mah groove thang, so I figgered I’d try my hand at making a couple. Well, I made the first one. And rimixed the second. Enjoy! Oh, and both of these are BearsGoneWild.com only! So tell yer friends. ;O)
If you want to buy the original version of Survivalism, you can get it on iTunes. If you want to make your own Survivalism remix, visit http://www.nin.com and download the Garageband file.
My musical tastes are eclectic and definitely not cool. If you’ve ever seen me during my once or twice yearly Rotten-Robbie’s-dancefloor freakouts, you might have noticed out that I am also a HUGE Kelly Clarkson fan. The new Kelly Clarkson song “Never Again” and this Dave Aude remix are available at New Music Now. And you should get it now because it rocketh.
And then buy it when it’s released because it’s good karma, yo.
When I first heard The Bird and the Bee’s self-titled debut album (CD? Disc? MP3 collection?), I thought it merely cute, spartan and maybe even a little forgettable. Then I saw perform live at the Crest Theater in Sacramento California. There in that darkened theater, my opinion of them did an about face.
Seeing them in person amplified the cuteness factor for me but also showed me that they have so much more to offer. They are far from spartan (my first listen was on small computer speakers), in fact, their music is quite the opposite. It is thick with guitar, multiple keyboards and the kind of metronomic drumming reminiscent of The Cure’s Lol Tolhurst; but what stands out as the most significant for me is the singing of Inara George. When she opens her mouth, even when she is singing “F-cking Boyfriend,” she sounds like an angel (Think of your favorite female singer from the heyday of 4AD, think Elizabeth Fraser or Miki Berenyi).
The Bird and the Bee are fun. Their jazz-inspired arrangements are well thought out and expertly written. The end result is an intoxicating mix that you may not appreciate right out of the box. Give it time, I think they’ll sneak their way into your most played list much the same way they’ll sneak their way into your heart.
Tim really summed up Bears Gone Wild for me in an email he sent me after I asked him if he’d be interested in being on the site.
“… regardless of my tendency towards the ladies, I fully support the awareness/advancement of naturally occurring man-hair (as you can probably tell from my photos) and applaud your site and its fans in the enthusiasm with which y’all are squashing stereotypes within the gay community and the facially hairy community in general.”
He’s so cool, talented and easy on the eyes. I’m superdooper happy to have him in the Bubba Recommends music spotlight. I hope you fellers enjoy his music as much as I am.
For more pics, music and his summer tour schedule, you can go to Tim’s web site www.armyoftim.com or check him out on myspace. If you’re in SF, get ready for a Bears Gone Wild Live Music Night sometime in late June when Tim and the boys roll into town.
I first heard of these guys a few months ago and loved them! I figured I’d send them an email to see if their name was just random and if they’d ever heard of the gay bear fellas and if so, did they have any bears in the band. Ed, the lead singer and songwriter (second from the left in the picture), wrote back and said that they didn’t have any bears in the band but they really got a kick out of Bears Gone Wild and they would totally love to share some pics and music with you guys. I’ve been listening to their first album (Horn of Plenty) a ton lately and really dig it. They’ve got a new album out now, You can download a track on their web site. And don’t forget to add them on myspace. Tell ‘em Bears Gone Wild sent you!
