Who Is This Guy Anyway?
Tim really summed up Bears Gone Wild for me in an email he sent me after I asked him if he’d be interested in being on the site.
“… regardless of my tendency towards the ladies, I fully support the awareness/advancement of naturally occurring man-hair (as you can probably tell from my photos) and applaud your site and its fans in the enthusiasm with which y’all are squashing stereotypes within the gay community and the facially hairy community in general.”
He’s so cool, talented and easy on the eyes. I’m superdooper happy to have him in the Bubba Recommends music spotlight. I hope you fellers enjoy his music as much as I am.
For more pics, music and his summer tour schedule, you can go to Tim’s web site www.armyoftim.com or check him out on myspace. If you’re in SF, get ready for a Bears Gone Wild Live Music Night sometime in late June when Tim and the boys roll into town.

A Bears Gone Wild Exclusive!
Interview… BGW Style, Yo.
What was your most memorable experience climbing trees?
Hiding from the boss in a tractor trailer full of Chrismas trees during a high school job as a tree farm worker.
What is/would be your favorite US city to play? Why?
Somewhere in Hawaii. Besides obvious vacation destination reasons, it would mean I’ve reached a level of success where I could travel to a place further than where a shitty van could take me.
What do you wear to bed?
Boxers, beard.
What are you a collector of?
Consumer-grade musical gadgets/garbage you could buy at Sharper Image in the late ’80s, sub-par Chinese microphones.
Who are your biggest bearded musical influences? What’s in your CD player/MP3
playlist right now?
Eddie Rabbit, Beatles, early bearded Springsteen, Sparklehorse, Flaming Lips, Silver Jews, Built To Spill, Destroyer. I’ve had an MP3 CD of the entire Steely Dan box set on random shuffle and repeat in my car for the past 10 months. I haven’t decided yet if I’m embarrassed about this or not.
What would you ask Paul McCartney if you ever met him? Or if you have, what did you say?
“Can you play me any good songs you have written since 1975?”
What is your most memorable public transportation experience?
We don’t know what that means in Seattle.
Most memorable skinny dipping experience?
If the bathtub counts, I was sweating off a massive hangover in a big old clawfoot in Oxford, Mississippi when a tornado hit and dropped a tree on the roof above me.
Do you know any gay guys who identify as bears? What do you think about this whole “bears gone wild” thing anyway?
I know at least a couple gay guys who I would say fit the bear description. I’ve also been seeing an emergence of young heterosexual former-pretty-boys (see Chris Zasche, my steel player in the photos–still very pretty though, to his credit) who are wearing their man-hair with pride, maybe in part due to the underground bear revolution.
I would say the “bears gone wild” thing in my mind is equal parts hilarious and equal parts awesome. As you can probably tell by my photos, I definitely identify with the manly fashion statement and what I perceive as the general good-time spirit of the bear lifestyle. It’s not really about where you hibernate, it’s how you flaunt your fur.

Just met my cousin (actually, first cousin, once removed…he’s my cousin’s boy) Tim last week when he played Minneapolis. What a guy! Fabulous musician, and really sweet too. His lady friend Shana is delightful, as well. Well done, Tim! You do the family proud.
But can I just say there’s something just a little bit creepy about talking about my cousin in this forum? Not that there’s anything wrong with that…I’m kinda into bears myself. Okay, very. That’s why this is so bizarre. Ahh, well…life. Go figure.
